About the Founder
Stephen Johnson is President and CEO of Las Playas Print Company. With more than 25 years of experience, he has been a pioneer in growing and transforming the San Diego screen printing industry to better meet the needs of today’s digital society.
Having started his first printing business at the age of 17, Johnson has long had a passion for turning artistic concepts into wearable products. He believes strongly in the concept of individualism, which has driven interest in helping companies, individuals and organizations create designs that are expressions of their personal and professional ideals.
A surfer and competitive runner, Steve particularly enjoys working with action sport brands and retailers, as well as companies and non-profits that promote active lifestyles and healthy living.
Steve is a graduate of the Art Institute of San Diego. He is a member of the U.S. Track and Field Association, the PRT running team, and has served as a judge for the last decade in the annual t-shirt design competition hosted by the La Jolla Surf Association. A Point Loma native, Steve lives in Ocean Beach, with his wife Debra Baker and his two labs, Star and Sophie, who frequently can be found greeting Las Playas Print Co. customers at the shop on Jefferson Street in Point Loma.
